Updating and reformulating Aaron T. Beck’s pioneering cognitive model of anxiety disorders, this groundbreaking work is both authoritative and highly practical. The authors synthesize the latest thinking and empirical data on anxiety treatment and offer step-by-step instruction in cognitive assessment, case formulation, cognitive restructuring, and behavioral intervention. They provide evidence-based mini-manuals for treating the five most common anxiety disorders: panic disorder, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder. User-friendly features include vivid case examples, concise “Clinician Guidelines” that reinforce key points, and over three dozen reproducible handouts and forms.
Product Description:

Throughout eight prior editions, "CTP" has been established as the cornerstone text in the field of psychiatry and mental health. This Ninth Edition provides a wealth of new and updated information in neural science, genetics, neuropsychiatry, psychopharmacotherapy, and other key areas. A distinguished new co-editor, Pedro Ruiz, MD, has joined Drs. Benjamin and Virginia Sadock for this edition, and over 500 contributors provide the most up-to-date information in every area of psychiatry and mental health. The book includes case histories, the most current DSM-IV-TR criteria and tables, and up-to-date comparative classification codes from ICD-10.
A companion Website will offer the fully searchable text.

Summary: Great Condition, Comprehensive Text
Rating: 5
This 2 volume text came to me in great condition. You cant beat the price- If you are debating between the 9th and 8th edition, go for the 8th and save about $300. Besides, the DSM-V will be out soon rendering both editions "obsolete" as far as following DSM structure. Sure the 8th edition is missing a few of the newer pharmacological agents; but, again, save some money. Great text.... maybe too much information. Invaluable reference.

Summary: DON'T BUY FROM AMAZON IF YOU LIVE ABROAD
Rating: 1
I bought this (very expensive) TWO VOLUME set from amazon and received just the first volume 2 MONTHS later !!!
Amazon won't send me the second volume and wants to give a PARTIAL refund.
If do not want this kind of problem, DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON IF YOU LIVE ABROAD !!!

Summary: Inaccurate
Rating: 1
Inaccurate on ME (CFS). The treatment of ME is better than most other general texts in that it does have a few facts such as some details on endocrine and immune pathology. But it also repeats the same old falsehoods found in a lot of others. These include that there is good evidence for CBT and GET; no listing of other therapies; stating that etiology is in part at least probably psychiatric; etc. Obviously a careful review of the literature was not conducted.

Summary: review of the book of psychiatry by saddock and kaplan
Rating: 3
This book is not as useful as the synopsis of psychiatry by the same author. It seems to me that it is written for commercial purpose and not to communicate information. Thats because some of the text in the synopsis is reproduced in the comprehensive text about psychiatry. Taking its high price i do not recommend it for you to buy it.

Summary: Yes, it's worth the money.
Rating: 5
This is probably the best reference/text to be found concerning psychiatry (and related fields). Anyone in a behavioral science field could benefit from this 2 volume, 55 chapter text. Excellent information, case studies, algorithms, tables & figures, & DSM-IV-TR/ICD-10 dx criteria, etc.

A major shortcoming is the index. The index could be much more detailed considering how much detail is in the text. As noted by another reviewer, one might have to tediously comb through an entire chapter or section to find information not indexed. However, the lackluster index doesn't outweigh the utility of this product.

Myths about Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder(ADD/ADHD) abound. This disorder frequently goes unrecognized, and even when diagnosed may be inadequately treated. In this up-to-date and clearly written book, a leading expert offers a new way of understanding ADD. Drawing on recent findings in neuroscience and a rich variety of case histories from his own clinical practice, Dr. Thomas E. Brown describes what ADD syndrome is, how it can be recognized at different ages, and how it can best be treated.

This is the first book to address the perplexing question about ADD: how can individuals, some very bright, be chronically unable to “pay attention,” yet be able to focus very well on specific tasks that strongly interest them? Dr. Brown disputes the “willpower” explanation and explains how inherited malfunctions of the brain’s management system prevent some people from being able to deal adequately with challenging tasks of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. His book is an authoritative and practical guide for physicians and psychologists, parents and teachers, and the 7 to 9 percent of persons who suffer from ADD/ADHD.
This new edition of Dr. Larry Silver’s groundbreaking clinical book incorporates recent research findings on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), covering the latest information on diagnosis, associated disorders, and treatment, as well as ADHD in adults. Providing a broad overview of the continuum of neurobiologically based conditions, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder thoroughly reviews disorders often found to be comorbid with ADHD, including specific learning disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, anger regulation problems, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and tic disorders. Dr. Silver emphasizes that ADHD is a life disability that affects not only school performance but also family life, peer interactions, and successful participation in sports and other activities. For about half of the individuals with this disorder, it is also a lifetime disabilityAthus, interventions must be considered for each phase of life. Addressing day-to-day management issues faced by physicians and mental health professionals who see patients with ADHD, this guidebook discusses such practical concerns as how to make a differential diagnosis, work with children and families in a multimodal treatment setting, manage a medication regimen, and explain ADHD to parents. Covering ways to work with the school system as well as new and controversial therapies, this up-to-the-minute book is essential reading for all who care for individuals with ADHD.
The First Episode of Psychosis is the ideal book for patients experiencing the frightening and confusing initial episode of psychosis, which often occurs during late adolescence or early adulthood, and which affects nearly 3% of all people over the course of their lifetime. The book covers a range of disorders, focusing on primary psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia and schizophreniform disorder, clearly describing symptoms, early warning signs, and treatment--information that is essential for patients and families faced with the challenges posed by psychosis. The book also discusses psychiatric evaluation, healthy lifestyle choices, and the stigma often associated with mental illnesses. Worksheets allow readers to keep records of symptoms to facilitate communication with care providers, and an extensive glossary clarifies the dizzying array of terms used by medical professionals. Optimistic, practical, and recovery-oriented, The First Episode of Psychosis will help patients and their families to take an active, informed role in their care to ensure the best possible prognosis.
Francis Mark Mondimore MD "Bipolar Disorder: A Guide for Patients and Families"
The Johns Hopkins University Press | 2006-02-09 | ISBN: 080188313X | 304 pages | PDF | 1,7 MB

Bipolar disorder can be devastating. It can disrupt relationships and careers, it can wreak havoc on family life, and, when not properly treated, it can be fatal. Since 1999 this compassionate and comprehensive guide has helped tens of thousands of people cope with this complex disease. This, the second edition of Bipolar Disorder, is thoroughly updated and discusses promising new options for diagnosis and treatment along with new information on the disease's genetic components.

Bipolar disorder is difficult to diagnose. Dr. Mondimore explains how symptoms fluctuate in persons with seasonal affective disorder, how they can lead to a mistaken diagnosis of attention deficit--hyperactivity disorder in children, and how they may be made worse by alcohol or drug addiction.

The disease can also be difficult to treat. Dr. Mondimore gives advice about how to pick a psychiatrist and cope with the stigma of psychiatric diagnosis. He provides extensive information on treatment options, including the advantages, disadvantages, and side effects of various drug therapies.

He also describes what it is like to live with bipolar disorder and discusses how lifestyle changes can improve quality of life. Throughout, he focuses on the importance of building a support system, planning for emergencies, and giving yourself permission to seek help.
